Our approach

How we publish and correct food data.

CarbTable’s editorial policy, source selection, review limits and process for nutrition data corrections.

Responsibility and review status

Rodrigo Elgueta leads CarbTable. The catalogue is a beta reference built from USDA records, with automated validation and source-matching checks. It has not received independent clinical or dietitian review. We do not claim professional review or credentials that have not been verified.

What qualifies for publication

Each entry must have a distinct USDA identifier, a description that matches its preparation, a reported carbohydrate value, compatible nutrient units and traceable source data. We keep raw, cooked, dried, canned and sweetened foods separate. Missing nutrient values remain missing. Household measures come only from the source record.

Names, dates and illustrations

Display names are shortened for readability; the original USDA description is visible on every food page. Import dates describe our catalogue, not a new laboratory analysis. Illustrations and temporary category icons do not establish a serving size.

Corrections

Use the data issue form or email hello@carbtable.com with the food, FDC identifier, disputed value and supporting source. The project owner can compare the report with the retained USDA record, update the catalogue when warranted, and document the change in the project history. Sending an email is not an automatic acceptance of a correction.

Editorial priorities

We prioritize confusing preparation states, household measures and reported errors. Guides use examples calculated from the same records as the tools. We do not present carbohydrate content as a health score or provide medication dosing advice.
